Seminole Public Schools Announces Summer Drivers Education Class
Certified Instructor Shortage Will Limit Enrollment
(Seminole, Oklahoma) Plans are underway for a Summer Drivers Education Class, with limited enrollment capacity. Due to an unexpected shortage of certified driving instructors, the class will be limited to twenty students to be selected by a lottery drawing on Monday May 13th. Enrollment opened on May 8th and will be closing on Friday May 10th. To be eligible to enroll and be included in the lottery draw, students must be at least 15 and half years of age and must be enrolled in Seminole Public Schools. The fee for the class remains the same as it was last summer at $150 per student. The in-person classes will begin daily from Monday May 20 through Friday May 24th (Times TBD). Individual student driving times will be held between May 28th and June 30th and will be scheduled with each student following the successful completion of the 30-hour class. Seminole Schools have been searching for additional certified drivers’ education instructors and will continue to keep the positions open. The school administration understands the need to offer additional drivers-education classes and will consider evening and weekend courses during the school year if additional instructors become available.

Seminole Middle School has been placed under lock down. Students will be released as soon as we have an all clear from law enforcement.

ALL ACTIVITIES ARE CANCELLED THIS AFTERNOON. PLEASE STAY SAFE AND WEATHER AWARE.

Seminole High School students will be VIRTUAL today due to a water main break. Students who are being transported by the bus will be transported home.

SPS Parents & Guardians: Students were moved to their designated safe spaces during the tornado warning. We are continuing to monitor the weather in preparation for dismissal. Please watch for additional updates regarding transportation.

Wilson Elementary teachers reported hearing what sounded like gunshots in the neighborhood close to the school while students were on the playground. As a precaution, all students were moved inside and law enforcement was notified. The all clear was given by law enforcement in a short amount of time. All students were safe at all times. We are thankful for the proactive approach from our Seminole Police Department in keeping our students safe.
