Parents, The Parent P-EBT Review Form is available July 17th – July 28th, 2023, if you need assistance with P-EBT for Summer 2023. For Summer 2023, schoolchildren must meet three important eligibility requirements: • Children must have been enrolled in a school district that participates in a federal meal program where meals are served at a school. • Children must qualify for free or reduced-price meals based on income and have turned in the free or reduced-priced meal application to your children’s school for 2022-2023 by May 26th , 2023, or be enrolled in a school that participated in the Community Eligible Provision, Provision 2 or Provision 3 federal program in 2022-2023. • Children must have been enrolled in a school district in May of 2023. If you believe your child meets the above eligibility criteria and you did not receive your summer benefit by July 17th, 2023, please fill out the review form on the OSDE website by July 28th, 2023. Please submit a separate form for each student. Your school will have an opportunity to review your information. Only your child’s school can verify eligibility for P-EBT benefits. Any new benefits for Summer 2023 stemming from corrections will be disbursed by DHS in Fall 2023. If you have lost your child's P-EBT card, you may request a new card at (888) 328-6551 or connectEBT.com.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 1, 2023, Contact: Bob Gragg, Superintendent Phone: (405)-382-5085 Email Address: bgragg@sps.k12.ok.us Seminole Public Schools Announces Plans to Set a New Standard With a Restorative Educational Learning Option (Seminole, Oklahoma) Plans are underway to address recent increases in behavioral issues for students, along with addressing post-Pandemic behavioral learning challenges for students in Seminole Public Schools. The focus will be on restructuring the student discipline matrix with a proactive approach. Schools across the nation are reporting increased student behavior issues since the spring of 2020 COVID shutdown. These challenges are being reported in pre-teens as well as teenagers, for such issues as vaping, drug abuse, fighting, bullying, sexual misbehaviors, inappropriate internet/social media issues, just to mention a few of these trends. Long-term student suspensions, with law enforcement and DHS officials being involved in school discipline issues have become routine. Long-term student suspensions are not working as deterrents. Rather, they seem to be counterproductive in the long run. This is where Seminole School officials, including administrators, board members, teachers, counselors, and staff are drawing a line with a message that “Enough is Enough.” All students have a right to a high-quality educational learning experience even if it is offered in a different setting, a different timeframe, and a different environment. This is the why, when, and where of the plan for offering Restorative Educational Learning as an option to replace traditional long-term student suspensions. Rather than students being sent home, and possibly increasing the opportunity for roaming the neighborhoods for one or more semesters, a student in Restorative Educational Learning will be expected to be engaged in a blended daily virtual learning environment, plus attending in-person classes a minimum of two evenings per week. This will be a whole-person approach for academics, counseling and supportive services geared toward a re-entry target, uniquely designed for each student’s educational needs. We know the school cannot do this in isolation. The familiar saying that “it takes a village to raise a child” could not be more fitting than our current reality. We need parents, students, and community leaders to join this partnership with Seminole Schools. We invite you to learn more and share your support by attending a town hall meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday June 8th in the Commons Area at Seminole High School. The COVID Pandemic may have thrown some of the traditional educational standards off track, yet we have a choice with options to address and restructure the standards. We can continue to be off track, or we can choose to get back on track and define the future for our children and youth of our community. Seminole Public Schools wants to get back on track by reestablishing high standards and expectations for learning and for student behavior. Dear Families, We’ve been working hard! As you know, we’ve been reviewing and practicing for your child’s very first state achievement test. Our students will be taking the 3rd Grade Oklahoma Core Curriculum Test for English Language Arts on Tuesday, April 18th and Wednesday, April 19th. We will take the Mathematics test the following week on Tuesday, April 25th and Wednesday, April 26th. All tests will be taken on the computer again this year. As you know, starting the day off on a positive note helps set the tone for the day. Here are some suggestions to help ensure each child is ready to focus and succeed on testing days: Ensure your child arrives at school on time. We cannot admit late students into the classroom once testing begins. If your child is late, they will have to wait in the library until testing is over. They will then take their missed test during one of our scheduled make-up days. Have your child eat a healthy breakfast either at home or at school. Ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep. School age children should receive 9 to 11 hours of sleep each night. Gently encourage your child to do their best! They’ve been preparing for “the big game” for a long time!
